Low-income individuals who are unable to cool their homes during extreme heat conditions may qualify for Wake County’s Cool for Wake program. Through September 2, 2008, Cool for Wake will provide free fans to qualified individuals.

Code Orange Health Notice Comes with Nasty Heat
Air quality officials issued a health notice for air pollution in the Charlotte, Triad, Triangle and Rocky Mount metropolitan areas on Thursday as well as high altitude locations near Asheville. Forecasters have predicted Code Orange conditions, which means that air quality in these areas is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
