Wake County Parks Announce Summer Camp Schedule

Children of all ages are invited to attend Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space’s 2008 summer camps. Please note that preregistration is required for all camps. Registration information is available online at www.wakegov.com/parks or by calling 856-6680.

Adventure Week Day Camp
Children ages 9 to 12 will visit every Wake County Park in one week. This adventure runs June 23–29 and includes a variety of hands-on outdoor activities and crafts. Campers will learn what makes each area of Wake County unique, while visiting a different park each day. Thursday includes an overnight camping experience at Harris Lake County Park. Van transportation will be available each day from Lake Crabtree County Park or Crowder District Park.

Adventure Camp is $150, which includes transportation, snacks, instruction, Thursday dinner and Friday breakfast. Preregistration is required. Lake Crabtree County Park is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville. Crowder District Park is located at 4709 Ten-Ten Road in Apex.

Summer Camps at Blue Jay Point County Park

For more information about Eco-Kids and Mini-Camps, call 870-4330. Blue Jay Point County Park is located at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road, Raleigh.

Day Camps at Crowder District Park
One-week day camps at Crowder will offer children hands-on nature activities including crafts, hikes, games and snacks. Campers must bring their own lunch.

Summer Camps at Historic Yates Mill County Park
Yates Mill is offering the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences Camp from June 23–August 3, Youth Unlimited Programs Science Education Camp from June 23–27 or July 7–11, and the Colonial Camp Daytime Summer Programs from August 11–15. Camps are held at Historic Yates Mill County Park. For more information including camp fees, call 856-6675. Historic Yates Mill is located at 4620 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh.

Nature Detectives and ECO-Camps offered at Harris Lake County Park
Become a nature detective and explore your environment through hands-on activities, games, hikes and more. Discover the mysteries of animal behavior – what they eat and how they survive in a world that can be cruel at times. The camp runs for one week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and costs $50 per child. Camps are offered the weeks of August 4 and September 8.

Harris ECO-Camp is offered for ages 8 to 12, Monday through Friday, and cost $80 per child. These camps run June 11–15 and July 14–18. For more information, call 387-4345. Harris Lake County Park office is located at 2112 County Park Drive in New Hill.

Sails and Trails Camp at Lake Crabtree County Park
Learn to sail at Lake Crabtree. Beginning sailing students ages 8 to 11 will enjoy four hours of sailing instruction and three hours of environmental education every day for a week. Sails and Trails Camp will be offered July 7–11. The camp is $190 per child. For more information, call 460-2723. Lake Crabtree County Park is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville.
