At a recent Town Council meeting, Apex leaders approved a 14% increase in the electric rate for residents and businesses. The increase was not on the agenda by name, but was offered via a motion issued during the “New Business” portion of the meeting agenda. The motion — to approve adjustments in electric service rate schedules — was passed by unanimous vote.
Currently, Apex residents pay a rate of $.0855/kWh per month, along with a $8.81 customer charge and a 3% North Carolina state sales tax. Additionally residents pay outdoor lighting fees for outdoor areas, private streets, private driveways and parking areas. Rates for outdoor lighting range from $7.07 - $51.48 per fixture, in addition to other charges for poles, fixtures and underground service.
Business are charged at different rates based on their size and time of use. Monthly rates vary from $.0834/kWh and $14.24 customer charge to $14.00/kWh and $76 customer charge.
