Original paintings and prints by botanical illustrator Claire Alderks Miller will be on display at The Nature of Art in Sunset Lake Commons in Holly Springs during September. The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday, September 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will include paintings featuring North Carolina plants depicted with a level of detail that only a plant enthusiast can achieve.

“This fascination of mine with nature, especially the plant world, and art, it’s like a circle dance, round and round,” says Miller. “While learning about the intricacies of plants and their habitats, I see the relationships between nature’s shapes, colors, light and shadows.”

Miller is a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, American Society of Botanical Artists, and a Wake County Master Gardener volunteer. She works primarily in watercolor, colored pencil, and graphite, and often combines these media in rendering her finished paintings.
